Choose a dock lift by what crosses it, the heights it has to meet and whether the site can take a pit. Send us those and we confirm the model.

Dock lift or truck leveler

A dock lift moves the load. A Truck Leveler lift moves the truck, with 30 in of travel and 40,000 to 60,000 lb capacity, so the bed sits at dock height for loading. A wheel locator and a full width approach ramp help the driver set the truck in place.

Capacity and platform

Dock lifts carry 2,000 to 20,000 lb, and the air cargo lift 15,000 lb. Platforms run from 60 to 156 in wide and 72 to 240 in long. Weigh the heaviest load together with the pallet jack or fork truck that rolls it on. The TSL carries 9,500 to 20,000 lb on captured rollers rated for high end and side loads. The air cargo lift has a roller conveyor deck with pallet stops for containers.

The dock is one part of the warehouse material handling page, beside the tuggers, picking carts and trailer dollies.

Portable, stationary or pit mounted

The CMD and PDQ are portable and sit on the ground with a low profile, 4 1/2 inches on the PDQ. The PLD is stationary with a 6 to 6 1/2 inch profile. The PLT mounts in a pit for fork truck loading. Truck levelers come surface mounted or pit mounted.

A vehicle driven onto a platform is a job for a vertical ram lift, 6,000 to 30,000 lb with no scissor legs. Trailers that must move between doors first go to the electric yard truck, and the dock lifts belong to the lift tables and dock lifts range.

Ramps, bridges and rails

Most dock lifts come with a hinged approach ramp, a throw-over bridge to cover the gap at the dock and handrails. The CMD and PDQ have beveled platform sides that protect feet and toes. Ask us which parts a model includes. A gap that traffic must cross and that opens for other traffic is a job for a bascule bridge.

What to send for a quote

  • The dock height and the range of truck bed heights
  • The heaviest load and what rolls it on, pallet jack, dolly or fork truck
  • Whether a pit is possible at the dock
  • The power at the site
  • Your delivery ZIP code

Questions

Can a fork truck drive onto a dock lift?

The PLT pit mount dock lift is built for fork truck loading at grade. Send us the fork truck weight with its load and we confirm the model and capacity.

Is the PLTC still available?

The PLTC was renamed PLT, with more capacities and platform sizes. Send us your PLTC model number and we match it to the current model.

Do we need a pit?

Not for a portable or stationary dock lift. The CMD, PDQ and PLD sit on the ground, and surface mounted truck levelers install above ground. The PLT and pit mounted truck levelers need a recessed pit.

What is a dock lift?

A dock lift raises pallet jacks, dollies and fork truck loads between the ground and the dock or the truck bed. Standard models carry 2,000 to 20,000 lb on platforms from 60 to 156 in wide and 72 to 240 in long, and the truck leveler raises the truck itself, to 60,000 lb.

How do I get a price?

Call us or send the form. Tell us what you move, the route and your ZIP. We send a written quote with the machine, freight and build time.

How does it arrive?

Most machines go by freight truck from the factory. Parts and smaller items can go by FedEx or UPS. Freight to your ZIP is on your quote before you order. Rush and overnight shipping cost extra. We sell and ship to US addresses only.

What warranty comes with it?

EK Tech covers Pony Express tuggers for 2 years on the frame and drive and 1 year on other parts. For DJ Products and Autoquip equipment, ask us.
